About Me

MomMaya5months

Hi, I’m Lainie! Thanks for visiting!

I started my  online business in 2009. I’d like to say it was something I had planned on doing, but if I’m honest, it was a complete accident. All I was really doing was trying to make some money on the side at home in my spare time, since I wasn’t making nearly enough in my job at the time. I saw an advertisement for an opportunity to make money doing transcription work from home, and I figured I would be great at it since I was a spelling and grammar nut and had a super-fast typing speed.

At first, I was working for other companies. I did tons of research online, joined forums, read blogs and figured out the best way to go about making livable income doing transcription. When I first started, I really wasn’t making a lot of money doing transcription. It was just pocket change, really. But I figured I could do it in my spare time. After all, even making $5 an hour transcribing audio was better than the $0 an hour I was getting watching TV or playing games on the Internet.

I didn’t have any of the tools transcriptionists usually use, because I didn’t know about them. However, the more research I did and the more involved I became, I eventually found ways to earn more per hour. I tried a lot of different things. In fact, my first year I did writing and wrote articles as well as transcription. But I liked transcription more than writing, and within the year, that’s all I was doing. In 2009, my typing speed was roughly 80 words per minute. By 2012, it naturally increased to over 120 words per minute, and I learned about typing expander tools that help me to type even faster.

Anyway, I started taking on private clients and doing freelance work in between working for other companies. After just a few months, I realized that if I put a lot of hard work into it, I could start my own transcription company.

It worked! Within six months, I was making the same amount of money doing transcription work from home as I was at my job. It wasn’t much, but I was able to replace the income. I also was saving gas money by not having to drive back and forth to work. It seemed like I was actually going to make this thing work! It wasn’t easy. I put a lot of LONG hours in. Sometimes I worked over 24 hours straight at the computer, but eventually I figured it out.

After just two years, I was making more money than I ever had before!!! And I was doing it all from the comfort of my own home. Life was good!

On April 28, 2014 I gave birth to the most amazing little baby girl. I went from work-at-home woman to work-at-home mom. Everything changed! While I considered myself blessed and lucky to be able to stay at home with my daughter, finding balance between being a mom and being a business owner became a task I wasn’t really prepared for. Sure, everyone said being a mom was hard work…but I didn’t realize how much hard work it actually was!

I love my crazy WAHM Life! I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can work with my daughter swinging in her swing next to me. I can take small breaks throughout the day to play with her and watch her achieve every one of her little baby milestones without missing a beat.

I don’t have to send her to daycare, which I’m really thankful for. On really busy work days, she will go to my parents’ house or I’ll ask a family member to come over and keep her occupied so I can get stuff done, but she’s always with family or a close friend. I wish every mom was able to do this, too!

My mission is to help as many moms as I can make money from home and achieve balance doing it, so they can play a very active role in their kids’ lives (which is how it should be!) and live the life they want.
